What is Clarity?

The clear refection of the light fixture on this Emperador brown marble counter top is what we refer to as clarity. Usually when you are trying to achieve a hi-polish or a hi-hone finish, you must have excellent clarity as a foundation. Excellent clarity is an indication of no wear or scratches, as this would cause a cloudy or distorted reflection. Excellent clarity provides the longest lasting finish.
This hi-polish travertine has excellent clarity. This floor was processed with a fill diamond hone and compound polish.
With travertine, diamond honing not only helps the travertine itself, however also the filler. This picture is of a new installation travertine. The picture is after an 800 resin diamond using an Italian Klindex stone machine. This is a perfect example of how diamond honing a travertine, even new, will provide higher clarity, better end finish than if not done. It helps by honing the filler in the stone so that it helps take a shine as well.
